Pierre M. Lucien is LDF’s Education Equity Fellow, whose work critically examines the role of traditional indicators of merit in perpetuating racial inequality in higher education. Prior to LDF, Pierre was a Policy Analyst for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, where he investigated the effects of college and career pathway programs on college readiness, access, and success for students historically underrepresented in higher education. Before that, he was a Research Analyst at Harvard’s Center for Education Policy Research, where he contributed to impact evaluations of interventions intended to reduce chronic absenteeism in urban districts.
Educationally, Pierre earned a PhD from the University of Oxford, master’s degrees from Brown University and the Ohio State University, and a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University in Queens, NY. He also holds a graduate certificate in Institutional Research from the Pennsylvania State University. Pierre was born and partially raised in Les Cayes, Haiti. The remainder of his formative years were spent in Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, NY. Pierre is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
